Understanding geohazards and their risks, which can impair societies, economies and the environment, is most important to determining the future co-evolution of humans and the Earth.Geohazards have received heightened attention since acceleration of human influenced environmental changes partially due to a) increasing per capita energy consumption, b) global overpopulation, and c) near-future exhaustion of natural resources. Finally, natural and human caused geohazards can harm the sustainable development of economies, societies, and eco-systems.
It is time that scientific communities worldwide shift interests to quantify inter-relationships between human and nature systems for the purpose of better understanding and communicating. Furthermore, integral concepts are needed for sustainable development to keep the balance between:
- Needs of wealth growth and economic growth,
- Socio-economic and environmental sustainability,
- Aesthetic integrity of the nature.
