Understanding geohazards and their risks, which can impair societies, economies and the environment, is most important to determining the future co-evolution of humans and the Earth.
Human communities and the Earth's natural environment exist in a primordial balance for a long time. However, geohazards have received heightened attention since acceleration of human influenced environmental changes partially due to a) increasing per capita energy consumption, b) global overpopulation, and c) near-future exhaustion of natural resources. Finally, natural and human caused geohazards can harm the sustainable development of economies, societies, and eco-systems.It is time that scientific communities worldwide shift interests to quantify inter-relationships between human and nature systems for the purpose of better understanding and communicating. Furthermore, integral concepts are needed for sustainable development to keep the balance between:
- Needs of wealth growth and economic growth,
- Socio-economic and environmental sustainability,
- Aesthetic integrity of the nature.
